A position has arisen for an experienced and qualified person to bring a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes to Te Wānanga o Raukawa while adding value and improving operations in line with kaupapa and tikanga Māori. 


Kaitiakitanga and Rangatiratanga will be your guiding kaupapa as you research, assess, guide, and develop the organisation to ensure the ultimate expression of manaakitanga through the delivery of a quality service in all aspects.


Whanaungatanga will be key in ensuring you develop relationships with all key stakeholders both internal and external to Te Wānanga o Raukawa to support you in your role. Your confidence to communicate across a variety of platforms, both written and spoken te reo Māori and English will further support the demanding workload as will your competence in systems, administration and management. 


This is a specialised role for the right person seeking to work within a Māori organisation to uplift te iwi Māori.

  • Key Responsibilities

    There are many ways to express our guiding kaupapa. The Internal Auditor will, in the main give expression to the kaupapa through:


    Rangatiratanga

    • Evaluates and provides reasonable assurance that risk management, control, and governance systems are functioning as intended and will enable the organisation's objectives and goals to be met
    • Reports risk management issues and internal controls deficiencies identified directly to the audit committee and provides recommendations for improving the organisation's operations, in terms of both efficient and effective performance.

    Kotahitanga

    • Behaviour is consistent with the kaupapa
    • Represent the best interests of institution, stakeholders and staff at all times
    • Attend and contribute to staff hui, and any other hui where your attendance has required by the Tumuaki
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships
    • To work collectively and collaboratively on other activities as tasked by the Pou Whakahaere.

    Pukengatanga

    • Evaluates information security and associated risk exposures
    • Evaluates regulatory compliance program with consultation from legal counsel
    • Evaluates the organisation's readiness in case of business interruption
    • Maintains open communication with management and the audit committee
    • Teams with other internal and external resources as appropriate
    • Engages in continuous education and staff development
    • Provides support to the company's anti‐fraud programs.

    Ūkaipotanga

    • Engage in and complete studies each year
    • Be committed to further study and completing each year
    • Pursue creative activity that extends the mātauranga continuum
    • Work toward the completion of an appropriate and relevant tertiary qualification in
    • Accounting and/or Business Studies.

    Wairuatanga

    • Encourage and support karakia at meetings and other places where appropriate
    • Contribute willingly to a positive work environment
    • Undertake creative whakatupu mātauranga which will contribute to the mātauranga
    • continuum.

    Kaitiakitanga

    • Attending meetings with auditees to develop an understanding of business
    • processes;
    • Travelling to different sites to meet relevant staff and obtain documents and
    • information;
    • Researching and assessing how well risk management processes are working and
    • recording the results using software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
    • Providing ad hoc advice and guidance to managers and staff at all levels, sometimes
    • by delivering courses and training sessions;
    • Performing risk assessments on key business activities and using this information to
    • guide what to cover in audits;
    • Anticipating emerging issues through research and interviews and deciding how best
    • to deal with them;
    • Providing support and guidance to management on how to handle new
    • opportunities;
    • Agreeing recommendations with relevant staff members to make improvements to
    • operations and helping to secure backing for them in meetings;
    • Preparing reports to highlight issues and problems and distributing the reports to
    • the relevant people;
    • Assessing how well the business is complying to rules and regulations and informing
    • management whether any issues need addressing;
    • Managing a variety of stakeholders and their expectations through regular
    • communications.

    Manaakitanga

    • Create and maintain positive relationships with staff and students
    • Prepare contingency plan to ensure consistency of service is guaranteed
    • Undertake regular surveys to ensure a quality service and report findings and recommendations to Tumuaki
    • Whanaungatanga
    • Encourage and support ART participation
    • Practise kanohi ki te kanohi where possible
    • Show commitment to growth and development within your role and encourage others to follow your lead.

    Te Reo

    • Show competence in and continue to develop written and oral skills in te Reo
    • Encourage all staff, students and others with their studies and confidence in te reo
    •  Ensure effective communication with other parts of Te Wānanga o Raukawa to achieve smooth and efficient operations.

    Whanaungatanga

    • Key relationships are explicit and implicit in all kaupapa.


  • Person Specification

    The appointee should:

    • Hold relevant academic qualifications and/or relevant experience in the field Be committed to pursue higher study.
    • Stay abreast of current quality enhancements to the management of an organisation.
    • Be a clear thinker and committed to developing own knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Te Wānanga o Raukawa and able to engage others in developing their knowledge and pride in the delivery of a quality service.
    • Be confident orally and with written Reo in a style suited to the intended audience. Able to work unsupervised.
    • High level of integrity.
    • Able to manage own workload to meet deadlines and able to encourage others to complete work within timeframe.
    • Be a clear communicator in English.
    • Be knowledgeable of Whakatupuranga Rua Mano, the ART Confederation and the origins of Te Wānanga o Raukawa and able to explain this to staff students and others who are in contact with the organisation.
    • Able and willing to perform a wide range of tasks, some with competing demands, to achieve excellence.
    • Have a high level of competence in systems, administration and management.
