Te Wānanga o Raukawa campus in Ōtaki has a range of facilities and support available to you when you are attending residential seminars or noho. You are welcome to call in anytime for a look around. We look forward to seeing you here.
For students attending their first noho, they will be welcomed in with pōwhiri. Please come prepared and dressed in the appropriate attire. This can be an overwhelming experience for some and we can assure you, you will not be alone. Please let your academic area know if you are bringing support.
Pōwhiri usually take place outside on the grass area of the building Ōtaki. Our tikanga for pōwhiri had been adapted while our nation had been traversing through Covid-19. Please check the information on our Emergency Response page to stay updated.
Ōtaki campus
Accommodation is in a marae style or open sleeping areas. Register with Kaitiaki (security) each time you come to noho. Linen is provided but please bring with you blankets, towels and personal or medical care items.
Te Wānanga o Raukawa provide ensuite rooms for special circumstances i.e. sensitive and serious health issues. Please make enquiries with your Kaikōkiri (administrator) at least two weeks prior to noho as rooms are limited and can book out fast. You may be asked to provide a medical certificate or other documentation.
Sleeping Areas:
We have three sleeping areas that are issued as follows:
Whakatu:
There are 3 portacoms which make up this area:
They are east, west and north.
Each portacom has 20 single beds with a locker and night light.
There are cots in the north and east portacoms for use by babies and toddlers.
Wairau:
Wairau has 8 bedrooms with twin single beds in each. They are for:
-Visiting staff who work for us and are based away from Ōtaki
-Kaiāwhina
-Kaumātua
-Students with Disabilities:
To be considered for one of these rooms, students with disabilities must provide a medical certificate confirming their requirement for special facilities:
Upstairs in the Ōtaki and Porirua Trusts Board building.
There are 2 separate rooms with a capacity for 25 mattresses in each.
This is marae style accommodation with mattresses set out on the floor.
Whanaungatanga
Please be mindful of others sharing the accommodation area. Lights should be turned off at 10.30pm.
Ablutions
The hot water in the showers will run for 5 minutes and then switch off.
Manukau and Te Tairāwhiti Sites
Accommodation while on residential seminar or noho is provided by nearby marae. Bring blankets or a sleeping bag and towels as well as any personal and medical care items.
You are provided with all meals while on noho at Te Wānanga o Raukawa. You are also welcome to bring snacks with you while you are here. Please make arrangements with your Kaikōkiri (administrator) if you have any special dietary needs ie. allergies etc for catering purposes.
Meal times:
Breakfast: 8.00am
Morning Tea: 10.30am
Lunch: 1.00pm
Afternoon Tea: 3.30pm
Dinner: 6.00pm during summer (daylight savings)
5.30pm during winter (daylight savings end)
For Hui Rumaki Reo the dinner times remains at 6pm
Sugar:
We no longer provide sugar. We do provide stevia powder, honey and maple syrup as sweeteners.
Additional Requirements: For those with allergies please note: While care is taken to eliminate allergens from the meals prepared specifically for you, they may still contain traces of allergens.
$2 coin operated washing machines and clothes dryers are available for students.
The town centre also has a self service laundromat for your convenience.
Our Kaitiaki (security) staff are available to pick students up from the local Inter-City drop-off point on the Main Highway in Ōtaki.
If you require this service please contact you Kaikōkiri (administrator) to organise.
When you arrive on noho at the Ōtaki Campus you are required to register with Kaitiaki (security), pick up your linen and they will direct you to the accommodation.
Kaitiaki are onsite 24/7 if you require assistance.
Where can you find us?
We are located in the main administration block Te Moana a Raukawa, the first building from Tasman Road entrance, please look out for Kaitiaki signs.
We’ve partnered with Student Card ID which means you will be invited to apply for your Student ID online. All enrolled students at Heke (Diploma) level and above will receive an email inviting you to apply. Your student ID will be sent out directly from Student Card after March.
This card is your ticket to exclusive discounts nationwide as well as unlocking on campus services. In 2024 as an expression of Manaakitanga all ākonga studying at diploma level and above will receive this free of charge.
Students studying at certificate level can access the same advantages with a Student Card ID at a small cost of $12.

If you become unwell while on noho in Ōtaki, the programme administrator, on approval from the Kaihautū, can arrange for you to be seen at the Ōtaki Medical Centre. For other locations, please speak to the tutor who will discuss with you and the site manager the best approach.

Purchase Te Wānanga o Raukawa branded clothing and other merchandise from our Campus shop. Shop hours are 1.00pm to 2.00pm on selected days when students are on campus.
Ngā Purapura is a world-class training facility located at our Ōtaki campus. With a fully equipped gym, court facilities, meeting rooms, classrooms, cafe and more. Ngā Purapura is home to qualifications offered under Te Whare Oranga and is available for students to enjoy at a subsidised cost while on campus. Housed within the Te Ara a Tāwhaki building at the Ōtaki campus, Te Whare Pukapuka offers a warm and welcoming space for students with spacious study areas, access to desktop computers, wifi along with printing, photocopying and scanning services. Our trained librarians can help with research enquiries and provide support for accessing information. Please check out our page here for more details.
He Iti Nā Mōtai is a reo rumaki whare kōhungahunga (early childhood) and education centre at the Ōtaki campus. It provides a stimulating kaupapa Māori learning environment for the tamariki of students while you are on noho. We encourage you to make use of this facility. If you are seeking childcare while on noho in Ōtaki please contact them at least seven days prior to your arrival to ensure a place is available and your child can be accommodated. There are a small number of books available at the Manukau campus. The main whare pukapuka is located in Ōtaki, you can access the range of resources from here. The library aims to support your studies and research, staff are available by phone or email, for information on lending guidelines please contact the wharepukapuka on 0800 WANANGA or by email.
Our Manukau site is in a city setting and carparks are limited. Further information will be provided by our kaimahi during your residential seminar.
