On Monday 27 June the new carpark at Te Wānanga o Raukawa will be opened. The temporary entrance to campus is via Te Rauparaha Street. What does this mean for you?
Te Wānanga o Raukawa (TWoR) carparks and roads will change with effect Monday 27 June 2022. The Tasman Road entrance is now designated for building contractor and service lane access only, with disability and kaumātua parking for three vehicles. The TWoR vehicles will occupy the remaining three carparks under the Totara tree stand. Please respect the intention of these carparks.
Due to the nature of the service lane (cobbled path) high use of the lane is discouraged. It should be noted it serves vehicles travelling in both directions.
For the purpose of this guideline service vehicles include:
1. Courier and other delivery (food),
2. The TWoR Polaris, Vans and SUV,
3. The Manaaki Whenua staff work vehicles only,
4. Equipment and materials delivery only.
5. Kaitiaki staff vehicles.
These vehicles will be able to take the fire service lane between Te Ara a Tāwhaki and the Ōtaki building. 5km/hr is strictly required as this is a pedestrian highway and we do not intend to change that.
All staff car parking will now be via the new entrance at 35 – 49 Te Rauparaha Street. Access from the carpark to the campus will be via a walkway running adjacent to Whitireia. This will be in place for the remainder of the year whilst we build our new facilities.
All other staff vehicles are to be parked in the new carpark. For safety reasons all parking at the rear is reserved for students who will be staying overnight on campus. Please reiterate to all other students that parking is now via Te Rauparaha Street.
When exiting the new carpark, we are implementing a “no right turn” policy. Whilst it may be a little inconvenient for those who travel to and from the beach, it is seen to be necessary to ensure that we do not congest the Te Rauparaha/Main Street corner, and the Te Rauparaha north/south street as it does not have a turning lane to the entrance.
Parts of the site will be closed and designated as construction zones. There will be no entry without checking in at the Site Office.
Bicycles are encouraged and will be able to access the site via Tasman Road to utilise the current bike stands.
The eastern entrance to Miria te Kakara will be via a new stair placed at the northeast corner of the building. Construction zone 1 will be fenced along the eastern boundary. There is no longer access to the back of TWoR via the existing road. The Map of the site displays this.
The current car park in front of the building will be redesignated a pickup and drop off zone for children/parents only. Staff will park in the new carpark. A walkway has been created to enter He Iti nā Mōtai. Parents who choose to use the car park are welcome to do so.
